Traversing in the picturesque hill station of Nagarkot is mostly a two-day ordeal, which normally starts from Sankhu. It is about 17 km away from Kathmandu and is an antique Newari settlement. This Newari settlement is rich in culture and traditions. The culture here is a bit different from other people. You will walk along the banks of the Sali river, which is linked with Lord Mahadev. It is believed that this river was the place where his wife Parvati, used to bath.
The hiking later goes along the eco-trail, which provides amazing views of forests and hills. These trails are filled with wild birds and even small mammals. As you arrive in Nagarkot, you will be welcomed by the lush vegetation & fresh air carried away from the Himalayas. There are small villages here as well. From Nagarkot, you can witness astonishing views of the Himalayan mountains like Langtang, Gaurishankar, and even Everest on clear days.
If you head to the view tower in the morning, you will be greeted by a surreal display of sunrise enveloping these amazing mountains. After completing this trek, you will head back to Kathmandu via private vehicle, which takes normally an hour or so.

Best time to go on Nagarkot Hiking
If you wish to experience the full beauty of this amazing Nagarkot Hiking, then it is recommended to take this hiking trip during Autumn and Spring season. There are options of traveling in the monsoon season too, but many people tend to skip this time of the year as the trail becomes murky & muddy. Plus, there might be leeches too.
Difficulty Level & Altitude Sickness
Nagarkot Hiking is relatively easier, and anyone who can walk continuously for 2-3 hours can complete it. The trail sees you walk on elevated paths filled with greenery, which sometimes can be difficult. The trail slowly gains altitude until you reach a maximum altitude that crosses 2,000 meters. Rest assured, because you won’t face problems of altitude sickness.
